Today I had the privilege of touring the Cedar Point Sports Center in Sandusky, Ohio. When we first got there, we were met with one of their employees who kind of explained the entirety of the building and what we would all be seeing during the day. We started off on the basketball and volleyball courts. In the facility, there is room for 20 volleyball courts and 10 basketball courts. He also mentioned that the court surface itself is NBA grade which means that pros play on the exact same surface that the players play there. He explained some events that they could hold inside the building. He explains how anything from jujitsu to gymnastics competitions has been in that building. There are also local youth programs being held during the week in the facility with travel tournaments being held on the weekends with teams traveling from areas all over. The next thing we saw was "The championship court." This was the coolest part of the tour in my opinion because of the set up of the gym itself. He said there was room for up to 7,000 people to be packed into that small gym where seating is kind of limited I can just imagine the atmosphere in that gym when all the bleachers are packed full of spectators. He also showed us some rock climbing walls and even a Ninja obstacle course that was in the facility. He also explained some money situations with how they handle teams coming in and what money is going where. Lastly, there was a capstone group with us today and their task was to come up with a replacement for the arcade that is in the facility. The proposed solution was a sports bar. Although I am not in capstone, I thought it was interesting to hear all that went into planning a whole new area of the building and what was necessary for it to be successful. Overall, I thought it was a great trip and I am looking forward to more facility tours in the future.
Right about this time in the semester I really fellow students and I really start to get warn out of school. Schoolwork right around this time always heats up. Many of my classes are holding exams this week which puts on added stress with all of my other activities going on. What I really want and what my of my classmates want to come sooner is Thanksgiving Break. I know I am ready for it. Every day I wake up I am exhausted because I was up late doing homework the night before. I am also on football so the time where I could be doing homework and catching up on some sleep, I am at football and devote my time to that. Even though many students are not in athletics I can tell many of them are mentally drained. Many students are starting to not give sufficient effort to homework or exams anymore because they are just tired of it. I know I fall right into that category. These are a couple reasons why I am ready for Thanksgiving break. Having the opportunity to go home for a week and b...
