Much Needed Break

Last week we students here at Ohio Northern University finally got our Thanksgiving break. I talked to many of my friends and classmates around campus about the break and they all agreed with me that this break was very much needed. It has been a long semester for many of us and the break gave us time to recharge and get ready to get through these last 3 weeks of school and do well on our finals before we get a month off for Christmas break. I did many things that helped me relax and recharge over break. The most important thing that I did was SLEEP. It was very nice not having to wake up at 8 am and attend a class. Getting the opportunity to sleep in my own bed and sleep in was so refreshing. It was also good to see some friends and connect with people from back home that I haven't seen in a while. On Friday, I hung out with some of my childhood best friends from home and it was awesome to see them. I haven't seen them in forever and it was great to catch up. On Saturday, I got the opportunity to go watch my high school football team play in the state semifinals game and they won. That means this Saturday, I will be traveling up to Canton to watch my high school compete for another state championship. During the week I went to two thanksgiving parties which were nice to catch up with some distant family members that I haven't seen in so long. It was just nice being around family and not having to worry about school. This week reminded me that even though I am not at home physically, I will always have a place at home whenever I do come back. This week was definitely much needed.

  2. Noah, I agree with you all the way! I know you can relate being an athlete and how much it can be on you mentally and physically. Keep pushing and finish off this semester strong!

  3. Thanksgiving break was absolutely needed. The past month has been extremely busy in terms of academics for me, so getting to take a week off and totally forget school was amazing. It probably wasn’t the best idea to do no schoolwork, but it hasn’t caused any problems yet, other than some late nights this week.

  4. Noah, I happy you finally got to sleep! I definitely agree with you that we all needed a week to relax and replenish before the last three weeks of school. It was hard to come back to school for me since last year during this time we were done from school for winter break. Honestly, I am pretty burnt out but we only have a couple more weeks then we're off for a month! I'm glad you had a great break and I wish your high school team the best in the state championship!

Chapter 1 Material

One of the biggest concepts I comprehended out of the content in chapter one of the introduction of social media is the different advantages and disadvantages of social media. I want to focus on the advantages. Some of the advantages of social media include being able to build your brand, communicating with family and friends, and capturing memories. The most important advantage from the chapter for me is being able to connect with family and friends while also collecting memories along the way. Family and friends are two of the biggest components of my life and they always will be. Being away from my family and friends during college can be very stressful. I am very guilty of relying on my mom and dad to do many things for me. Even though I am a sophomore now, I still am trying to adapt and settle in to do things on my own. Even though I struggle at times, the access to social media has given me the opportunity to connect with my family and friends so I feel like I have a little bit o...

Fall Break

This past weekend and Monday and Tuesday we had a much-needed fall break. Our bye week for football also fell on this weekend so I was able to go home for about four days. It was so good to be home. My brother was home from college, so the whole family was home. Football and school can be very stressful so it was nice to get away from it all for a weekend.  I honestly didn't do anything over this break. It was so nice. At school, I am always on the go and it never stops moving. No matter what day of the week it is, I am always busy and on the run, so it was nice to just relax and not have to worry about doing anything over the break. On Friday, I went to my alma mater's football game. I went to Coldwater High School in Coldwater, OH and we are having a pretty good year. It was nice to go and watch some of my former teammates play so well and to continue to have a good year. We were able to grind out another victory to go 8-0. On Saturday and Sunday, I barely moved. I literall...

Dealing with Stress

It is getting to the point in the semester where things are starting to add up. Not only academic-wise but in personal life as well. As you already know, in my previous blog post, I talked about my baseball coach that suddenly passed away. This obviously wasn't very easy on me, as I struggled throughout the week to focus on school and other things. Also, schoolwork has started to amount to me. I have been having exams in some classes that are difficult, that I actually have to study for. Throughout my first 2 years of college, I never had to study for any exams, because my classes just came easy to me. This semester, I am in some more challenging courses that are causing some stress for me. If you are experiencing any type of stress, it is important to acknowledge some mechanisms to help you.  If you are experiencing an extreme amount of stress, there are always campus resources available. Here at ONU, we have a counseling center that will help you if you are in need. Another...
