Blogs

Chapter 12 talks about different ways to get active on social media or on the web. The first thing that chapter talks about is what I am doing right now, blogging. Blogging has really taken off lately. Year by year they have gotten more popular. Fashion blogs lead in popularity just edging out food blogs. Realistically you can write a blog about pretty much anything. This whole semester I have written about school, sports, and chapter summaries. The limits are pretty much neverending with blogs. Whatever crosses your mind you can make it into a blog. Blogs can also be used for marketing. Blogs can help businesses build their brand awareness, establish credibility, and so much more. Many businesses use brands as their primary way of marketing which is very interesting. Although there are many positives to marketing with blogs it also comes with some disadvantages. There are many key advantages to get started with Blogging such as setting goals, identifying the target market, creating a blog site, brainstorm topics, and so on. I believe that Blogging can be a great tool for a business if it is utilized correctly.

Chapter 1 Material

One of the biggest concepts I comprehended out of the content in chapter one of the introduction of social media is the different advantages and disadvantages of social media. I want to focus on the advantages. Some of the advantages of social media include being able to build your brand, communicating with family and friends, and capturing memories. The most important advantage from the chapter for me is being able to connect with family and friends while also collecting memories along the way. Family and friends are two of the biggest components of my life and they always will be. Being away from my family and friends during college can be very stressful. I am very guilty of relying on my mom and dad to do many things for me. Even though I am a sophomore now, I still am trying to adapt and settle in to do things on my own. Even though I struggle at times, the access to social media has given me the opportunity to connect with my family and friends so I feel like I have a little bit o...

Fall Break

This past weekend and Monday and Tuesday we had a much-needed fall break. Our bye week for football also fell on this weekend so I was able to go home for about four days. It was so good to be home. My brother was home from college, so the whole family was home. Football and school can be very stressful so it was nice to get away from it all for a weekend.  I honestly didn't do anything over this break. It was so nice. At school, I am always on the go and it never stops moving. No matter what day of the week it is, I am always busy and on the run, so it was nice to just relax and not have to worry about doing anything over the break. On Friday, I went to my alma mater's football game. I went to Coldwater High School in Coldwater, OH and we are having a pretty good year. It was nice to go and watch some of my former teammates play so well and to continue to have a good year. We were able to grind out another victory to go 8-0. On Saturday and Sunday, I barely moved. I literall...

PRSSA Meeting

For one of my school assignments, we had to attend an event this week around campus with homecoming. Due to my busy schedule this weekend I chose to attend the PRSSA meeting Thursday night. There were some other events to pick from but with my schedule being very busy this was the only event that I could get to go to. In addition to just attending, we also had to live-tweet this event giving updates with key takeaways from the event. This isn't the most orthodox assignment for a class that I get to do, but it was actually pretty interesting. This PRSSA meeting was all about ethics. September is Ethics Month in this organization so it was only fitting that our meeting would be over ethics and how it ties into public relations. For this event, they brought in a couple of guest speakers. These guest speakers were Ronele Dotson and Jo Ann LeSage Nelson. They talked about different types of crises and walked us through different case studies with what they had to deal with. What I like...
