What Should I Post?

The main focus of chapter 2 was how to strategize yourself and your content to get your messages across and connect with whatever audience you are trying to reach. There are many steps that you can take to make a plan of how you are going to develop content. I am just going to focus on the first couple of steps and elaborate more on them.
The first step that the chapter focuses on is identifying a target market and creating personas. This is a very necessary step to be able to connect with your audience. Identifying a target audience really means just making sure you know who you are talking to and who you are targeting. You don't want to be talking about something that doesn't apply to your audience. If you are in charge of selling hiking bags to hikers you want to tailor your content towards those individuals. This also ties into creating personas. The hiker would be one of those personas that you are creating. These personas are developed by collecting data and researching different target customers. This will help you group different kinds of content directed at different personas.
The second step is conducting a social media audit which includes social listening, SWOT analysis, and competitive assessment. Social listening pretty much means researching what is exactly going on around the internet what is being said about different brands and what individual's interests are. You also need to research these different brands and see what their competitors are. This will help you tailor your content to help you make decisions on different content to promote. Conducting a SWOT analysis will also help which means identifying the brand's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
There are many steps that you can take to help you conduct and promote content to put out but these are the main two that I thought were most important. These steps really give you a good start on how to post and what ideas you should be thinking about when you are posting.

Chapter 1 Material

One of the biggest concepts I comprehended out of the content in chapter one of the introduction of social media is the different advantages and disadvantages of social media. I want to focus on the advantages. Some of the advantages of social media include being able to build your brand, communicating with family and friends, and capturing memories. The most important advantage from the chapter for me is being able to connect with family and friends while also collecting memories along the way. Family and friends are two of the biggest components of my life and they always will be. Being away from my family and friends during college can be very stressful. I am very guilty of relying on my mom and dad to do many things for me. Even though I am a sophomore now, I still am trying to adapt and settle in to do things on my own. Even though I struggle at times, the access to social media has given me the opportunity to connect with my family and friends so I feel like I have a little bit o...

Fall Break

This past weekend and Monday and Tuesday we had a much-needed fall break. Our bye week for football also fell on this weekend so I was able to go home for about four days. It was so good to be home. My brother was home from college, so the whole family was home. Football and school can be very stressful so it was nice to get away from it all for a weekend.  I honestly didn't do anything over this break. It was so nice. At school, I am always on the go and it never stops moving. No matter what day of the week it is, I am always busy and on the run, so it was nice to just relax and not have to worry about doing anything over the break. On Friday, I went to my alma mater's football game. I went to Coldwater High School in Coldwater, OH and we are having a pretty good year. It was nice to go and watch some of my former teammates play so well and to continue to have a good year. We were able to grind out another victory to go 8-0. On Saturday and Sunday, I barely moved. I literall...

PRSSA Meeting

For one of my school assignments, we had to attend an event this week around campus with homecoming. Due to my busy schedule this weekend I chose to attend the PRSSA meeting Thursday night. There were some other events to pick from but with my schedule being very busy this was the only event that I could get to go to. In addition to just attending, we also had to live-tweet this event giving updates with key takeaways from the event. This isn't the most orthodox assignment for a class that I get to do, but it was actually pretty interesting. This PRSSA meeting was all about ethics. September is Ethics Month in this organization so it was only fitting that our meeting would be over ethics and how it ties into public relations. For this event, they brought in a couple of guest speakers. These guest speakers were Ronele Dotson and Jo Ann LeSage Nelson. They talked about different types of crises and walked us through different case studies with what they had to deal with. What I like...
