Cyberbullying

Today, I had to complete an assignment about an issue in social media. I then had to talk about the issue on a podcast. I surprisingly had some fun with this assignment. The topic that I chose to talk about what cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is a huge issue in the world today and sadly it will only keep growing based on the development of social media nowadays. According to stopbullying.org, cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets. This bullying is “popular” because there is no retaliation involved. People can just hide behind a screen and belittle someone without any repercussions. People also do this many times because there are fewer emotions involved. The person doing the bullying can’t see the reactions of the victim. The person bullying doesn’t necessarily have any guilt about it because they can’t see the reactions. I personally have come over many forms of cyberbullying in my life growing up with social media. I have seen the damage of what it can do on people, and I have seen the person bullying show no remorse. If you are being cyberbullied, you should speak up. If you don’t speak up and suffer in silence nothing will get done and you will continue to get worse. It is of utmost importance that we stop cyberbullying at all costs because it is damaging people and damaging lives. Chapter 1 Material

One of the biggest concepts I comprehended out of the content in chapter one of the introduction of social media is the different advantages and disadvantages of social media. I want to focus on the advantages. Some of the advantages of social media include being able to build your brand, communicating with family and friends, and capturing memories. The most important advantage from the chapter for me is being able to connect with family and friends while also collecting memories along the way. Family and friends are two of the biggest components of my life and they always will be. Being away from my family and friends during college can be very stressful. I am very guilty of relying on my mom and dad to do many things for me. Even though I am a sophomore now, I still am trying to adapt and settle in to do things on my own. Even though I struggle at times, the access to social media has given me the opportunity to connect with my family and friends so I feel like I have a little bit o...

Fall Break

This past weekend and Monday and Tuesday we had a much-needed fall break. Our bye week for football also fell on this weekend so I was able to go home for about four days. It was so good to be home. My brother was home from college, so the whole family was home. Football and school can be very stressful so it was nice to get away from it all for a weekend.  I honestly didn't do anything over this break. It was so nice. At school, I am always on the go and it never stops moving. No matter what day of the week it is, I am always busy and on the run, so it was nice to just relax and not have to worry about doing anything over the break. On Friday, I went to my alma mater's football game. I went to Coldwater High School in Coldwater, OH and we are having a pretty good year. It was nice to go and watch some of my former teammates play so well and to continue to have a good year. We were able to grind out another victory to go 8-0. On Saturday and Sunday, I barely moved. I literall...

Dealing with Stress

It is getting to the point in the semester where things are starting to add up. Not only academic-wise but in personal life as well. As you already know, in my previous blog post, I talked about my baseball coach that suddenly passed away. This obviously wasn't very easy on me, as I struggled throughout the week to focus on school and other things. Also, schoolwork has started to amount to me. I have been having exams in some classes that are difficult, that I actually have to study for. Throughout my first 2 years of college, I never had to study for any exams, because my classes just came easy to me. This semester, I am in some more challenging courses that are causing some stress for me. If you are experiencing any type of stress, it is important to acknowledge some mechanisms to help you.  If you are experiencing an extreme amount of stress, there are always campus resources available. Here at ONU, we have a counseling center that will help you if you are in need. Another...
