Have you ever been going through your phone and seeing ads that pop up randomly after you just have been thinking or talking about them? I have also had the same thing happen to me. The ads you see on Instagram are called Instagram ads. Instagram is a huge way for companies to advertise their products and services. It is actually the second most used platform for advertising.
Similar to Facebook the Instagram ads are set up the same way. You need to establish an audience. Many components are used to establish an audience such as location, demographics, and interests. The location means that you want to target people that are in the same approximate location as you, the advertiser, or stores of your product, Demographics are categories such as age and gender. You also want to target people that have interests that align with your product. There are also many ways you can set up an Instagram ad with different formats, You want to use a format that is appealing to the audience while also still informing of your product and service.
In the future, I want to get into the social media field related to sports. I am sure I will have to make ads on different platforms and these tips can make it easier for me to layout an advertisement while giving me the foundation to do more things with these ads in the future. For example, if I was working for the Cleveland Browns and they want a chance to win tickets to the next game coming up an Instagram ad could be used. I would have to know which audiences to target and different formatting to get my message across. These are all things that could happen and I will need to be ready for them. An example away from sports could be that I am working for an Under Armour apparel store. If it was my job to advertise a new t-shirt that is being released I could use an Instagram ad tailored towards people that would buy that certain shirt. Instagram ads have many components and to get your message across you have to be detailed and cautious about what to say and how you deliver what you are trying to say.
You mentioned all the different demographics that can be used for Instagram ads which really let you pin down a specific audience. When you advertise to give away tickets you could probably use the location demographic extensively. You don’t want to give tickets to someone who can’t come, but the ad wouldn’t be effective on enticing people far away to come. Keeping the ads targeted close to the event center will mean that people who have a lower barrier to entry will consider buying a ticket. When it is just the cost of a ticket instead of the cost of transport, a hotel room, and the ticket it is a lot easier to convince someone to make the purchase.
ReplyDeleteNoah, I liked how you used examples for upcoming fields you want to pursue to show how media ads effect everyone. It's interesting because we see every day on our media platforms, brands we love promoting products. But personally I never realized how easy it was to start. Yes, it's difficult to find the exact time, day, and demographic to promote to, but over time trends will stay and data will show results. The media is ever changing and right now ads are important, so I wish you luck promoting brands with ads at your next job!
