Thankful

September 4th, 2021. The date where the ONU football team takes the field for the opening game of the 2021 campaign. This will be my first normal season of football since my senior year of high school. There is a lot of anticipation for this upcoming season with playing a full 10 game schedule. I am very excited for this season because I will have a chance to prove myself even more after my freshman season. I received honorable mention all-conference my freshman year, but I want to keep progressing my game and getting better. There are concerns however about Covid. There is still Covid testing and the possibility of Covid spreading around the team. If we get through all of our Covid threats I feel like we have a great chance to have a great year off the field and in the classroom. ONU football has one of the highest if not the highest team GPAs in our conference. My GPA has slowly gotten better but I want it to be even higher this year. Some of my goals for my sophomore year for the football season is to be first team all-conference and I want to be an All American one day. I also want to be a leader for the younger guys and be a role model for the guys that look up to me. The whole ONU community will be at our football games and I want to have the younger kids in the community have someone that they can look up to. I want to be that person. Being on the football team brings many opportunities that a normal student wouldn't necessarily have. One of these opportunities could be traveling across the state and playing at different stadiums and venues. If we make the national playoffs we have the chance to travel across the country and experience new things. We also have a chance to be a part of a brotherhood and a family that normal students wouldn't necessarily get. In conclusion, I am just beyond grateful to be a part of the ONU football program and be a part of the ONU community. I can't express how happy I am to be here.

  1. I understand how you feel with being a leader on your team and wanting to make a difference. As a captain for the golf team, I need to be a leader and show the underclassmen how hard I work on the course and show them what I can also do for them on campus. Good luck in your first full season!

  2. Noah, I am so happy for you to finally have a normal college football season! That was probably the number one thing I missed the most, last year, were the football games. Good luck with your season, can’t wait to go and cheer on a classmate!

Coming to an End

If you are following the football team and our season, you know that this is the season's last week and last game. I am not going to lie, it has been a very long season for us. We are currently 2-7 which is very unfamiliar territory for many players on our team. In high school, I never had a season with more than 3 losses, so this has been relatively different for me.  Even though our record doesn't show it, this has been the closest team that I have been a part of since coming to campus three years ago. In the future, that is what we are all going to remember. We are going to remember the relationships that we formed and that are going to last for the rest of our lives.  Some of the seniors that are graduating have been some of my best friends for the last three years. I actually live with two seniors that are graduating now. As this week has gone on and we continue to do events for senior week, it has gotten to be very emotional. I still don't think it has hit me that so

Football is Over

After days of practices, meetings, and games, it hurts to say the 2021 football season has come to a close. I know it hasn't necessarily been one of the better years this program has had but I loved every second of it. There really is nothing like going out with your brothers and playing 60 minutes of football, the game you love the most. If you haven't seen it already we lost in a devastating fashion. We lost on a hail mary ball in the endzone with 8 seconds left after driving down and scoring 30 seconds before that. That was the part that really stung. We, underclassmen, were doing everything in our power to try to send these seniors out on top and it just didn't work out. Now it is time to move on as much as it hurts. I am now a junior football-wise and the preparation for next season starts now. I definitely need to get to work this offseason. Last year we never really had an offseason. Since the Covid year moved everything to the spring we never really had any time of

Bounce Back

The game on Saturday was not fun. If you don't already know we got upset very badly at Musky. I don't think anyone on the team really expected us to lose this game. We had an iffy week of practice, but I don't think anyone really predicted that we would end up losing the game. In my personal opinion, I thought that we were the better team with more talented players, but we just didn't get it done. I felt embarrassed and upset after this game. I was in pure shock. I had a long bus ride home to think about how the game went as a whole and what we exactly did right and wrong. I did a lot of soul searching on the way home and I realized that I have to be better and it starts now.  What is most important now is to bounce back. There is no point in dwelling on this game anymore. There is nothing that we can do about it anymore so we shouldn't think about it. The only thing that we as a team can do is to bounce back. It all starts during practice. Everyone knows the saying
